India has handed over evidence to Pakistan linking the deadly Mumbai attacks with "elements in Pakistan" and called on authorities across the border to investigate further and help bring the suspects to justice.

Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee urged the Pakistan government to shoulder its due responsibility.

"What happened in Mumbai was an unpardonable crime. As far as the Government of Pakistan is concerned, we ask only that it implement the bilateral commitments that it has made at the highest levels to India, and practices her international obligations. These are clear. It is my hope that the world will unite to achieve the goal of eliminating the threat of such terrorism."

The evidence included material from the interrogation of the lone surviving gunman, recovered weapons and data satellite phones.

India has blamed the November 2008 attacks on Pakistani-based militants, which killed a hundred and sixty four people. But Pakistan has denied the accusations saying India had yet to provide definitive proof.

The Mumbai attacks began on November 26 and lasted for nearly three days. 10 gunmen attacked 10 sites across India's financial capital, including two five-star hotels, the main train station, popular restaurants and a Jewish centre.
